Flowers From Friends Volunteers
Deliver a small bouquet of flowers to a patient when they are admitted to brighten their day. Deliveries are coordinated within your zip code and don't take very long.
Patient/Family Support Volunteers
Provide companionship and support to hospice patients and families in their homes, nursing homes, foster homes, or assisted living facilities. Delivery of medications or transportation of a patient or family member to the store or a doctor's appointment. You may also run an errand or run to the grocery store for a family. Hours are coordinated according to patient/family needs or can be flexible depending on the request. Patient/Family Support Volunteers may not provide hands on patient care.
Office Volunteers
Provide administrative office support to hospice staff. Mailings, filing, computer input, assemblage of information packets, telephone support, or copying are examples of some office volunteer support.
Community Outreach Volunteers
Host or represent Hospice El Paso at health fairs and community events. Educate civic community groups about hospice programs and services by being part of the Speakers Bureau. Scheduled events vary from weekdays to weekends.
Special Events Volunteers
Assist Hospice El Paso with annual fundraisers like the Celebrity Waiters Luncheon and Craft Fairs.
Bereavement Volunteers
Provide companionship and support to people who have lost a family member or friend. Bereavement support may be accomplished through home visits or telephone contact.
Bereavement volunteers may also provide administrative support to the Bereavement Coordinator. They may assist with memorial services and transporting a bereaved family member to a support group meeting.
Resident Pal Volunteers
Provide weekly companionship and support visits to improve the quality of life for residents in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, regardless if they are patients in the Hospice El Paso program. Hours are flexible, but the key to support is consistent, routine visits.
Craft Group Volunteers
Make crafts to brighten a patient's or family's day or to sell at craft fairs to raise money for the Hospice El Paso Special Patient/Family Fund. Meetings are every Friday from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Hospice El Paso. Craft fairs are routinely scheduled throughout the year. Making crafts at home is also an option for those unable to attend craft group meetings on Fridays.
Note: Teen volunteers must be at least 14 years of age to volunteer as an office volunteer, crafter, special event, and community outreach volunteer. If a teen volunteer desires to volunteer with patients or with the resident pal volunteer program, the teen must be accompanied by their guardian and the guardian must become a Hospice Volunteer as well.
