Frequently, patients are referred to Hospice who are too young for Medicare and have incomes too high for Medicaid. These people are often without adequate insurance or funds to pay for the services they require.

While Hospice provides assistance to the primary caregiver, we cannot be in the home 24 hours a day. When the caregiver is a husband or wife who is nearly as old and frail as the patient, extra help is needed in the home. If mobilizing the existing network of family and friends isn't enough, Hospice turns to limited respite funds to make it possible for the patient to remain in his home.
