Upon receiving a hospice referral from a doctor or a family inquiry, the Admissions team will respond promptly to the patient and their family to explain the benefits and scope of hospice care. A face-to-face visit is always encouraged, but some information and questions may be answered over the phone before the actual referral. With an order from a patient's physician or nurse practitioner, the admissions team begins the process of transitioning the patient into Hospice El Paso services. Education and counseling are provided every step of the way to ensure excellent quality of care and a trusting relationship throughout the admissions process.

How long can Hospice be used?

Patients may remain on hospice services for as long as the Medical Director or attending physician deems necessary. After six months, recertification for hospice care is provided in periodic intervals; two 90-day periods followed by an unlimited number of 60-day periods. Some patients continue to meet the requirements and remain in hospice services longer than six months, while others are discharged because their condition improves.
